About The Event
Ganga Kayak Festival 2019
Organized by “The Adventure Sports Society”
Location: Devprayag (River Ganga/Bhagirathi/Alaknanda), Uttarakhand, India
Pre-race registration: Rs. 1500/person (Pro men and women event - fees include - down river sprint, boater X, giant slalom, mass boater X, GKF Event T-shirt, Dinner on the 19th).
Registration time: 9 am - 6 pm (Feb 16th, 2019) at GKF/WWE Office at Tapovan
At the event site registration fees: Rs. 2000/person
Time: 9:00 - 11:00 am. Feb 17th, 2019 (save yourself time and money and register in advance!).
Opening ceremony: Feb 17th TBD
Prize Ceremony: Feb 19th at TBD
Whitewater Kayaking Events
Pro category: Men and women (need minimum 5 women in order to run this category!).
• Down River Race (sprint)
• Giant Slalom
• Boater Cross
• Mass boater Cross (open to all)
Descriptions:
Feb 17th - Down River Sprint (Pro’s): Starts from above the confluence rapid on Bhagiarathi river and sprint all the way down to the finish line (300+ meter long race course). Each athlete completes 2 laps and best time counts.
Feb 18th - Giant Slalom (Pro’s): Starts from above the confluence rapid on Bhagirathi river. There will be several downstream & upstream gates on both sides of the river. To finish the race, the athlete must touch the finish banner on the finish line. Each athlete gets only 1 lap so make it your best time.
Feb 18th - Boater cross (Pro’s): The top 32 athletes from the Sprint and Giant slalom events (combined results) will qualify for the pro’s Boater Cross. There will be heats of 4 kayakers. The racer will charge down to the touch me banner with hand on the river right. To finish the race, the athlete must touch the finish banner on the finish line. The top 2 from each heat will move onto the next round and so on. The top 4 athletes will qualify for the Super Final round and battle for the Boater Cross title.
Feb 18th - Best Indian paddler of the year award (Male and female): This award will go to the best overall Indian performer in all (downriver, giant slalom and boater X) events.
Feb 19th - Finals
Feb 19th - Mass boater cross (for all): Athletes will start from above the confluence rapid on Bhagirathi river. It will be a Le-mans style start. There will be some surprise obstacles which will be disclosed on the day of the event.
Rules for Pro’s category: Men & women
1. Minimum age of 18 years old
2. Athlete must be a solid class 4/4+ kayaker and a competent white water swimmer.
3. Kayak should not be more than 3 meters long!
4. 90 seconds penalty for missing gates/obstacles (on Slalom).
5. 5 Seconds penalty for touching gates (on Slalom).
